Rumors have been buzzing for weeks now, but today Simon Cowell made it official. This will be his last season on American Idol. He's bringing his UK show "X-Factor" to Fox next year and decided both shows would be impossible.

In my opinion, there is no American Idol without Simon Cowell. However, Idol is still one of the most watched shows in the United States. Fox won't turn away from that, but viewers (including me) just might.
